Our Story

Woodworking With Planer

Meet Gordo

Founder & Owner Master Craftsman

When BG was just an idea forming in the background, this was the very first piece created.

Crafted from blackwood milled by his father over 45 years ago, the timber carries more than grain — it carries legacy. Every board tells a story of patience, craftsmanship and generational skill passed down through hardworking hands.

The handles? Old drill brace handles once used by his dad to hand-drill post holes on their sheep farm.

The detailing? Shearing combs from the shearing shed — tools that shaped a life on the land.

This piece isn’t just furniture. It’s memory. It’s heritage. It’s rural Australia embedded in timber.

Gordo still has remaining boards from that original blackwood. They’re not for sale — some materials are too meaningful to part with. But perhaps one day, they’ll find their place in something special… maybe even styled for branding, a tribute to where it all began.

BG was never just about woodworking.

It was about honouring the past while building something lasting for the future.

_______________

BG was built on the kind of lessons you don’t learn from a manual.

Mum and Dad taught me to have a go at what you love — to try, to fail, to learn, to keep going. That mindset shaped everything. The shed became a second home. Timber became more than a material — it became a way to tell stories.

One of my favourite photos is Dad with my oldest son, Carlin — three generations of wood. It reminds me that what we make with our hands carries more than function. It carries memory. Pride. Legacy.

That’s where the name and the inspiration come together: Unicus — Latin for unique.

Because what I do isn’t about copying trends or pumping out the same piece over and over. It’s about making something that feels personal, that lasts, and that can’t be replicated.

BG is different because it’s built from real life — family, land, and a love of craftsmanship — and every piece is made to be uniquely yours.

At the heart of every unique space is a story, and for Gordo, that story is written in wood. As a true timber craftsman, Gordo has a rare ability to turn his hand to anything timber can imagine. Whether it’s crafting bespoke furniture that becomes a family heirloom, or transforming architectural spaces with statement timber pieces, his craft is both grounded and limitless.

Gordo’s work spans from intimate handmade dining tables that become the soul of a home to grand statement installations that define boutique hotel lobbies. Each piece is a fusion of technical mastery and creative vision, blending form and function so seamlessly that each project feels as if it was grown, not built.

From luxury home interiors to high-end commercial spaces, Gordo collaborates closely with architects, designers, and homeowners alike. He’s a creator who listens to the timber as much as he listens to his clients, ensuring each finished piece is a reflection of both the material’s natural character and the unique vision of the space it inhabits.

What makes Gordo different is his belief in “Unicus” — the Latin word for unique. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, crafted with intention, patience, and a respect for both tradition and innovation. Whether shaping a sleek, modern centerpiece for an architecturally designed home or reclaiming timber from a family farm to create a legacy piece, Gordo’s craftsmanship tells a story that’s distinct, personal, and enduring.

If you can envision it in wood, Gordo can bring it to life — not just as furniture, but as a piece of living history, waiting to become part of yours.

THE SHED DOGS

MAN'S BEST FRIEND

Every good shed has a dog.

For Gordo, that’s always been true.

Spike — the pup who grew up among timber shavings and the hum of tools — quickly became more famous than the craftsman himself. Loyal, watchful and never far from the action, he’s part of the rhythm of the workshop.

And before Spike, there was Wizard .

Wizard wasn’t just a dog. He was a mate. A shadow in the shed. A quiet presence through the early days of building BG. From long hours shaping timber to the still moments between projects, he was always there.

As Gordo prepares to say goodbye to his old mate, it’s a reminder that this workshop isn’t just about craftsmanship — it’s about life lived fully. Family. Loyalty. Land. Legacy.

The timber tells one story.

The dogs tell another.

And both are part of what makes BG what it is.

A DOG CALLED SPIKE

MAN'S BEST FRIEND

They say dogs named Spike are good-natured, loyal, loving and brave.

That the name carries courage and companionship.

That couldn’t be more true.

Spike grew up in the shed — among timber shavings, old tools and long afternoons of quiet craftsmanship. He’s the greeter, the shadow, the quiet supervisor of every project.

More famous than the maker himself, if you ask Gordo.

Good-natured.

Loyal.

Brave.

Always there.

Because every good shed has a dog — and Spike embodies exactly what the name suggests.
